My Little Lady still typically wakes once at night to eat. While I tend to her in the dark of the early morning, I have made it a habit to either pray or think about what I am thankful for. I figure that since I am up and need to stay awake while I feed her, I should make the most of those moments.
This morning, I thought about things I am thankful for by starting with the small things that I typically overlook. I am thankful that I have a comfortable glider to sit in while I nurse (best baby purchase ever!), that her room is right next door, that I don’t have to go up or down stairs to get to her, and that I have a super comfy bed to get back into when I’m done.
I’m also thankful that I have a healthy baby to feed in the middle of the night. There are so many women who would love to be getting up in the middle of the night to feed a baby. I’ve never forgotten that I used to be that woman, and that has made it so much easier to be thankful I get to feed my baby at 3am instead of complaining about being woken up yet again when I hear Little Lady on the monitor. I’m thankful I have a safe, cozy home that is warm and dry inside, and that I have indoor plumbing to use before I return to bed.
While I will definitely be thankful for a full night’s sleep when that becomes part of my life again, I still have so much to be thankful for in this season of middle of the night wake-ups. Added bonus to hanging out with my girl at 3am: baby snuggles! As Little Lady gets older and older, daytime snuggles are becoming fewer and fewer!
